EVERYONE IS WELCOME!!! The Coal Creek Miners Museum will be hosting a Coal Miners Reunion on April 29th from 3 to 6 p.m. at Lake City Middle School to honor the miners that worked in the East Tennessee, South East Kentucky and South West Virginia coal mines. This event is not just for the miners but also for the communities that grew because of coal. There will be chili and soups, live music, door prizes, t-shirts for sale and a program to honor the hard working men and women who mined coal. In addition, the museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 29th and local historians will be on hand to answer any questions.
There will also be guided tours to the historical sites in Coal Creek including stops at Militia Hill where the militia was stationed during the Coal Creek War, Briceville Community Church and Leach Cemetery where Fraterville Miners’ Circle is located. The guided tours of the historical sites and admission to the museum are free but you will need to make a reservation for the tour by calling 865-340-3269.
All proceeds from this event will go to fund the remodel of the second floor and installation of an elevator to access the second floor of the Coal Creek Miners Museum’s building.
